Delightful and crispy Air Fryer Churro Bites made with a simple dough cooked to golden perfection, then coated in cinnamon sugar. Perfect as a sweet treat served with chocolate syrup, honey, or your favorite dip. This easy recipe uses the air fryer to achieve the classic churro texture with less oil and mess.

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter plus 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, divided
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg

Cinnamon Sugar Coating

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Optional for Serving

  • Chocolate syrup
  • Honey
  • Chocolate pieces or sauce for dipping

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough mixture: In a medium pan over high heat, combine water, 1/3 cup unsalted butter, salt, and 2 tablespoons sugar. Bring to a boil, stirring to melt the butter completely.
  2. Add the flour: Reduce the heat to low and gradually add the all-purpose flour to the boiling mixture, stirring continuously until the dough forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan. Turn off the heat.
  3. Cool the dough: Transfer the dough into a large mixing bowl and let it cool for 4-5 minutes, allowing it to come down to warm but not hot temperature to prepare for egg addition.
  4. Mix in egg and vanilla: Add the large egg and vanilla extract to the slightly cooled dough. Use an electric hand mixer to combine thoroughly until the mixture is smooth and slightly fluffy.
  5. Preheat air fryer and prepare basket: Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray the air fryer basket with a neutral nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  6. Shape the churro bites: Transfer the dough into a piping bag. Pipe small bite-sized churro shapes directly into the air fryer basket, taking care not to overcrowd. Alternatively, spoon small dollops into the basket. You will need to cook in batches.
  7. Brush with butter and air fry: Lightly brush the tops of the piped churro bites with the reserved tablespoon of melted butter. Cook in the air fryer for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown and crisp. Repeat with remaining dough.
  8. Prepare cinnamon sugar coating: In a shallow bowl, mix together the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon until evenly combined.
  9. Coat the churro bites: When the churro bites are cooked, immediately transfer them to the cinnamon sugar mixture. Toss gently to coat all sides evenly. If the coating does not stick well, brush churro bites with melted butter, or lightly spray with water or cooking spray before rolling in sugar mixture.
  10. Serve: Serve the cinnamon sugar coated churro bites warm with your choice of chocolate syrup, honey, or chocolate dip for an indulgent treat.

Notes

  • You can cook the churro bites in multiple batches to avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket and ensure even cooking.
  • Using a piping bag results in traditional churro shapes, but spooning small dollops works well if you don’t have one.
  • Brush with butter before air frying to achieve extra crispy and flavorful bites.
  • For best results, consume churro bites warm and fresh from the air fryer.
  • Feel free to experiment with dipping sauces such as caramel or fruit preserves.
