4.1 from 6 reviews

Deliciously spiced air fryer apples that are tender and flavorful, perfect as a healthy snack or dessert. This quick and easy recipe uses simple ingredients like cinnamon, vanilla, and butter to enhance the natural sweetness of Gala apples, cooked to perfection in an air fryer for a soft, caramelized finish.

  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Apples

  • 4 small/medium apples (Gala recommended)

Seasoning & Toppings

  • 1½ teaspoons cinnamon, separated
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil (vegetable oil can be used as alternative)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons sugar

Instructions

  1. Prepare the apples: Remove the cores from the apples and slice them into ½ inch slices. You may peel the apples if desired, although keeping the skin adds texture and nutrients. Toss the apple slices with the canola oil, vanilla extract, and half a teaspoon of cinnamon to coat evenly.
  2. Preheat and air fry: Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (193°C). Lightly spritz the air fryer basket with oil if preferred, though this step is optional. Arrange the apple slices in the basket in a single layer, trying to avoid excessive overlapping for even cooking. Air fry the apples for around 10 minutes until they become soft and tender, shaking the basket halfway through cooking to help them cook evenly.
  3. Toss and serve: Once cooked, transfer the apples to a bowl. Immediately toss them with the melted butter, the remaining 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and the sugar. Serve the spiced apples warm for the best flavor experience.
  4. Storage instructions: Store any leftover apples in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. For longer storage, freeze the cooked apples for up to 2 months and thaw before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute Gala apples with any other sweet apple variety such as Fuji or Honeycrisp.
  • If you prefer a vegan option, substitute butter with coconut oil or vegan butter.
  • For a sugar-free version, omit the sugar or replace it with a natural sweetener like stevia or erythritol.
  • If your air fryer is small, cook the apples in batches to ensure even air circulation and cooking.
  • Adding a pinch of nutmeg or a squeeze of lemon juice can enhance the flavor profile further.
