Ingredients
Chicken Marinade
- 1 pound chicken breast, cut into small pieces
- 1/2 cup stir fry sauce
- 1/4 cup sesame ginger dressing
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
Coleslaw
- 1 cup thinly sliced cabbage
- 1/4 cup shredded carrots
- 2 tablespoons sesame ginger dressing
Wonton Taco Shells & Garnishes
- 10 wonton wrappers
- Vegetable oil, for frying (about 2 inches deep in pan)
- Fresh cilantro leaves, for garnish
- Lime wedges, for serving
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, for cooking chicken
Instructions
- Marinate the Chicken: In a bowl, combine the chicken pieces with stir fry sauce, sesame ginger dressing, soy sauce, and brown sugar. Mix well and let the chicken marinate for at least 30 minutes to absorb all the flavors.
- Prepare the Wonton Taco Shells: Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Gently fold each wonton wrapper into a triangle without sealing the edges to allow oil inside. Fry the wontons until golden brown and crispy, flipping halfway through. Remove and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil. Repeat until all are fried.
- Make the Coleslaw: In a bowl, thoroughly mix thinly sliced cabbage, shredded carrots, and sesame ginger dressing. Cover and refrigerate until ready to assemble tacos.
- Cook the Chicken: Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken and sauté until fully cooked and caramelized, forming a savory glaze on the pieces.
- Assemble the Tacos: Spoon about 1 to 1.5 tablespoons of cooked chicken into each wonton shell, then top generously with the prepared coleslaw. Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves and serve with lime wedges on the side. Enjoy your crispy, flavorful tacos!
Notes
- Ensure the oil temperature is maintained around 350°F for properly crispy wonton shells without excess greasiness.
- The wonton shells can be made ahead and stored in an airtight container once cooled.
- Marinate the chicken longer if time permits for enhanced flavor.
- Use gluten-free soy sauce and wonton wrappers for gluten-free adaptation.
- Handle hot oil carefully to avoid burns and splatters.
