A refreshing and versatile Iced Latte recipe with a homemade blueberry syrup that can be enjoyed cold or hot. This delightful drink pairs the rich flavor of espresso with creamy milk and a fruity twist from the blueberry syrup, perfect for any time of year.

  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving

Ingredients

Blueberry Syrup

  • 1 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water

Latte

  • 3 ounces espresso (or ½ cup strong coffee)
  • 4-5 ounces milk of choice
  • 2 tablespoons blueberry syrup
  • Ice (for iced latte)

Instructions

  1. Make Blueberry Syrup: In a small saucepan, combine sugar, water, and blueberries. Heat over medium-high heat until simmering, stirring occasionally. Once the berries soften, gently smash them with the back of a spoon or masher. Simmer for 5 to 7 minutes until the berries disintegrate and the syrup turns bright purple. Remove from heat and strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve to remove berries and seeds.
  2. Brew Coffee: Prepare 3 ounces of espresso or ½ cup of strong coffee using your preferred method. You can also substitute with cold brew concentrate if desired.
  3. Prepare Iced Latte: In a drinking glass, combine the espresso or cold brew concentrate with milk and blueberry syrup. Stir well, then fill the glass with ice. Enjoy the chilled, fruity latte immediately.
  4. Heat Milk for Hot Latte: Pour milk into a mason jar and microwave for 1½ minutes. Depending on your microwave, continue heating in 30-second increments for up to an additional minute until milk is hot but not boiling.
  5. Froth Milk: Carefully remove the hot milk jar from the microwave. Secure the lid tightly and shake vigorously for 30 seconds to 1 minute to create foam. (See notes for alternative frothing methods.)
  6. Assemble Hot Latte: Using a towel or potholder, carefully remove the lid (beware of built-up steam). Pour the frothed milk over the espresso and blueberry syrup, topping with any remaining foam. Serve immediately, optionally garnished with whipped cream.

Notes

  • You can use fresh or frozen blueberries for the syrup.
  • Alternative frothing methods include using a milk frother, whisk, or blending vigorously with an immersion blender.
  • The blueberry syrup can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
  • Adjust the sweetness of the syrup by altering the sugar quantity as preferred.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute milk with almond, oat, or soy milk.
