Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 lb. ground chicken (ground turkey also works)
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 celery stalks, diced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 8 oz. can tomato sauce
- ½ cup Buffalo sauce (use Buffalo wing sauce, not hot sauce)
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp pepper
- 4 toasted hamburger buns
- ¼ cup ranch dressing (or use blue cheese dressing)
- ¼ cup blue cheese crumbles (optional)
Instructions
- Heat the oil: Warm olive oil over medium-high heat in a nonstick skillet until shimmering to prepare for cooking the chicken and vegetables.
- Add chicken and vegetables: Add the ground chicken, diced onion, and celery to the skillet, stirring to combine with the oil.
- Sauté: Cook the mixture, breaking up the chicken into small crumbles, until the chicken is fully cooked and the vegetables are tender, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 20 seconds.
- Add sauces and seasonings: Stir in the tomato sauce, Buffalo wing sauce, brown sugar, salt, and pepper. Allow the mixture to simmer gently for 3 to 5 minutes until it thickens slightly and flavors meld.
- Assemble sandwiches: Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto the toasted hamburger buns. Top each with ranch dressing and optional blue cheese crumbles for added creaminess and flavor.
- Serve: Serve immediately with your favorite sandwich sides and enjoy while warm.
Notes
- You can substitute ground turkey if preferred.
- Use Buffalo wing sauce, not just hot sauce, for authentic flavor.
- Blue cheese crumbles are optional but add a nice tangy richness.
- To toast buns, you can lightly butter and heat them in a skillet or toaster oven.
- Adjust spiciness by varying the amount of Buffalo sauce.
