Ingredients
Cookie Dough
- 1 cup butter (room temperature)
- 3/4 cup cornstarch
- 3/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
Cream Cheese Frosting
- 3 ounces cream cheese (room temperature)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- Food coloring (optional)
- Sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Baking Sheets: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper to prevent sticking and facilitate even baking.
- Cream Butter and Mix Dry Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, cream the room temperature butter until fluffy, about 3 minutes. Then mix in the cornstarch and powdered sugar until well combined.
- Add Flour: Incorporate the all-purpose flour into the butter mixture and mix until the dough is well combined and smooth.
- Shape the Cookies: Drop small teaspoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them adequately. To flatten the dough gently, dip the bottom of a glass into powdered sugar to prevent sticking, and press down gently on each dough mound.
- Bake Cookies: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes until set but not browned.
- Cool Cookies: Let the cookies sit on the baking sheet for about one minute before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely, which will help maintain their delicate texture.
- Prepare Cream Cheese Frosting: In a medium mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing thoroughly until creamy. You can add food coloring at this stage if desired.
- Frost and Decorate: Once the cookies are completely cooled, spread the cream cheese frosting evenly on top. Add sprinkles if you wish for a festive appearance.
Notes
- Make sure the butter and cream cheese are at room temperature for smooth mixing.
- Use parchment paper to prevent cookies from sticking and promote even baking.
- Pressing the dough gently with a powdered sugar-dipped glass prevents sticking and helps create an even surface.
- Let cookies cool completely before frosting to prevent the frosting from melting.
- Store cookies in an airtight container in the refrigerator to keep the frosting fresh.
- For a dairy-free variation, substitute butter and cream cheese with plant-based alternatives.
