Ingredients
Pie Crust
- 1 single pie crust (unbaked, store bought or homemade)
Filling
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 onion (chopped)
- 5 slices bacon (chopped)
- ⅓ cup Panko bread crumbs
- 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
- 3 tablespoons barbecue sauce
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
Topping
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup milk
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking the pie.
- Cook Filling: In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, chopped onion, and bacon until the meat is fully cooked with no pink remaining. Drain any excess fat thoroughly. Remove from heat and stir in Panko bread crumbs, yellow mustard, barbecue sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and black pepper until fully combined. Press this meat mixture evenly into the prepared pie crust.
- Prepare Topping: In a small bowl, whisk together the shredded cheddar cheese, egg, and milk until smooth. Spread this cheesy mixture evenly over the meat filling in the pie crust.
- Protect Crust Edges: Cover the edges of the pie crust with foil or a pie shield to prevent over-browning during baking.
- Bake Pie: Place the pie on the middle rack in the preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes with the foil on the crust edges.
- Finish Baking: Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15 minutes or until the cheese topping is bubbly and golden, and the crust is cooked through.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool slightly before slicing and serving warm.
Notes
- Use lean ground beef to reduce excess grease and keep the pie from becoming soggy.
- Substitute regular bread crumbs if Panko is unavailable, though Panko gives better texture.
- Covering the pie crust edges helps prevent burning and ensures even cooking.
- Feel free to add chopped pickles or diced tomatoes inside for extra cheeseburger flavor.
- Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated thoroughly before serving.
