Ingredients
Fudge Ingredients
- 3 cups chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate, 18.6 ounces)
- 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prepare the Pan: Line an 8-inch by 8-inch baking dish with aluminum foil or two overlapping pieces of parchment paper arranged in an ‘X’ shape to easily lift the fudge out later.
- Combine Ingredients: In a medium saucepan, mix together the chocolate chips and sweetened condensed milk.
- Melt Chocolate: Place the saucepan over medium-low heat, stirring consistently until the chocolate chips begin to partially melt. Stir in the vanilla extract evenly.
- Smooth Mixture: Continue stirring until the chocolate is completely melted, the mixture becomes smooth, shiny, and well combined.
- Pour into Pan: Pour the thick chocolate mixture into the prepared baking dish. Gently shake the pan side to side to settle the fudge and use a rubber spatula to spread it evenly if needed.
- Set the Fudge: Allow the fudge to set completely at room temperature on the countertop for about four hours until firm.
- Cut the Fudge: Lift the fudge out of the pan using the foil or parchment paper, trim any rounded edges, then cut into 4 equal large squares by cutting in half each way. Further cut each large square into 9 pieces by cutting into thirds horizontally and vertically, yielding 36 equal pieces.
- Serve or Store: Enjoy the fudge immediately, or store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks. For longer storage, refer to freezing instructions.
Notes
- You can use semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips based on your preference; both yield delicious fudge.
- Sweetened condensed milk is essential for creaminess and setting; avoid substitutes for best results.
- Make sure to stir constantly while melting to prevent burning the chocolate.
- If the fudge mixture is very thick and doesn’t pour easily, don’t worry—it will still set perfectly.
- Allow the fudge to fully set at room temperature instead of refrigerating for optimal texture.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container to keep the fudge fresh.
