Ingredients
Hot Chocolate Ingredients
- 4 cups milk (preferably whole or 2%)
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup bittersweet or semisweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate bar
- 1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt (optional)
Instructions
- Heat the Milk and Dry Ingredients: Place the 4 cups of milk, 1/4 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder, and 1/4 cup sugar in a small saucepan over medium to medium-low heat. Whisk frequently to combine and warm the mixture thoroughly without letting it boil.
- Melt the Chocolate: Once the milk mixture is warm and well combined, add 1/2 cup of bittersweet or semisweet chocolate chips. Continue whisking constantly to melt the chocolate chips completely and to ensure the chocolate is evenly distributed into the milk.
- Finish with Vanilla and Serve: Whisk in 1/4 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract and, if desired, a pinch of salt to enhance the flavor. Serve the hot chocolate immediately while warm and enjoy.
Notes
- Use whole milk for a creamier texture, or 2% milk for a lighter option.
- You can substitute the granulated sugar with brown sugar or honey according to taste.
- Adding a pinch of salt helps to balance and enhance the chocolate flavor.
- Top with whipped cream or marshmallows for extra indulgence.
- For a vegan version, substitute the milk with almond, oat, or soy milk and use dairy-free chocolate chips.
