Ingredients
Hot Cocoa
- 2 ½ cups whole milk
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 6 oz bittersweet chocolate (or semisweet, milk chocolate)
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
For Serving
- Homemade whipped cream
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: In a medium saucepan, add the whole milk, granulated sugar, and unsweetened cocoa powder, stirring them together to blend evenly before heating.
- Heat Mixture: Place the saucepan over medium heat, whisking occasionally. Heat until the mixture just starts to bubble around the edges but do not let it boil to prevent scorching.
- Add Chocolate and Vanilla: Remove from heat and add the bittersweet chocolate and vanilla extract. Whisk thoroughly until the chocolate has fully melted and the mixture is smooth and creamy.
- Serve: Pour the hot cocoa into four small mugs and top each with a generous dollop of homemade whipped cream. Serve immediately and enjoy the rich, comforting drink.
Notes
- Use good quality bittersweet or semisweet chocolate for the best flavor.
- Do not let the mixture boil to avoid burning the milk and cocoa.
- Adjust sugar according to your preferred sweetness.
- For a dairy-free version, substitute whole milk with almond or oat milk and use a dairy-free chocolate.
