Ingredients
Pickles
- 1 cup sliced pickles
Batter and Coating
- 2 large eggs
- 3 tablespoons flour
- 1 tablespoon hot sauce (Tabasco recommended)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
Dipping Sauce
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup minced onions (finely minced)
- 1 clove garlic (minced)
- 1 teaspoon dried dill (optional)
Instructions
- Dry the Pickles: Lay down a couple of sheets of paper towels and arrange the pickle slices on them. Place additional paper towels on top and let the pickles dry for a few minutes to remove excess moisture, which helps achieve a crispier coating.
- Prepare the Egg Wash: In a shallow dish, whisk together 2 large eggs, 3 tablespoons of flour, 1 tablespoon of hot sauce, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper until smooth and well combined.
- Prepare the Breadcrumbs: Place 1 cup of panko breadcrumbs in another shallow dish. These will provide a crispy outer layer for the pickles.
- Coat the Pickles: Working with one pickle slice at a time, dip it into the egg wash ensuring it is fully coated. Then, transfer it to the panko breadcrumbs and press gently to coat evenly. Place each coated pickle on a baking sheet.
- Air-Fry the Pickles: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Arrange the coated pickles in a single layer inside the air fryer basket with some space around each slice. Lightly spray the pickles with oil. Air-fry for 5 to 7 minutes until golden brown, then flip the pickles, spray with more oil, and cook for another 5 to 7 minutes until crisp and golden on both sides.
- Make the Dipping Sauce: In a small bowl, combine 1/4 cup sour cream, 1/4 cup mayonnaise, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, 1/4 cup finely minced onions, 1 minced garlic clove, and 1 teaspoon dried dill (optional). Mix well to create a creamy, tangy dipping sauce.
- Serve: Serve the crispy fried pickles hot with the prepared dipping sauce on the side. Enjoy as a delicious appetizer or snack.
Notes
- Ensure pickles are dried thoroughly to prevent soggy coating.
- Use panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch compared to regular breadcrumbs.
- Adjust the amount of hot sauce in the batter to control the spice level.
- To keep pickles warm before serving, place them on a baking sheet in a warm oven at low temperature.
- For a gluten-free version, substitute all-purpose flour and panko breadcrumbs with gluten-free alternatives.
