Ingredients
Hot Chocolate
- 600 ml (2.5 cups) milk (use less if using smaller mugs)
- 1.5 tbsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla paste or vanilla extract
- 80 grams (1/2 cup) chopped dark chocolate or chocolate chips
- 2 tsp cocoa powder
- Pinch of salt
Whipped Cream Topping
- 60 ml (1/4 cup) heavy whipping cream
- Chocolate shavings (optional)
Instructions
- Whip the Cream: Using a whisk or electric mixer, whip the heavy cream to your desired stiffness. Note that no sugar is added to this whipped cream, but you may sweeten it if you like.
- Combine Ingredients: In a small pot on the stove, add the milk, sugar, pinch of salt, vanilla, and cocoa powder. Whisk gently to combine all ingredients evenly.
- Heat the Mixture: Warm the mixture over low heat until steam begins to rise from the surface. Avoid boiling to prevent a skin from forming on the milk.
- Add Chocolate: When the milk is warm, stir in the chopped chocolate or chocolate chips. Whisk continuously until the chocolate has fully melted and the hot chocolate is smooth and uniform.
- Serve: Pour the hot chocolate evenly into two mugs. Top each with a generous dollop of whipped cream and sprinkle with chocolate shavings if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy your cozy treat.
Notes
- Use dark chocolate for a richer flavor but any chocolate type works.
- Do not boil the milk to keep the texture smooth and avoid skin formation.
- Whipped cream can be sweetened if preferred.
- Chocolate shavings are optional but add an elegant touch.
- Adjust sugar to taste depending on the sweetness of your chocolate.
