Ingredients
Filling Ingredients
- 1 lb ground chicken
- 1 cup chopped green or napa cabbage
- 3 green onions, finely sliced
- 1 tbsp minced fresh ginger
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 6 finely chopped mushrooms
- 2 tbsp sesame oil
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar or grape juice
- ¼ cup low sodium soy sauce
Other Ingredients
- Wonton wrappers
- Chili oil, for drizzling
Instructions
- Prepare the filling: In a large bowl, combine ground chicken, chopped cabbage, green onions, minced ginger, minced garlic, chopped mushrooms, sesame oil, rice vinegar (or grape juice), and low sodium soy sauce. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly incorporated to create a flavorful filling.
- Layer the dumpling lasagna: Spoon a portion of the filling mixture into the bottom of individual ramekins. Place a wonton wrapper over the filling to create the first layer. Continue layering alternating spoonfuls of the mixture and wonton wrappers until the ramekins are nearly full, building up a layered effect similar to traditional lasagna.
- Add water and seal the ramekins: Pour about ⅓ cup of water into each ramekin to generate steam during cooking. Then seal the tops of the ramekins with two more wonton wrappers, ensuring the filling is enclosed and will stay moist while steaming.
- Steam the dumpling lasagna: Place the filled ramekins in a Dutch oven with water filled halfway up the sides of the ramekins. Cover and steam over medium heat for approximately 20 minutes, allowing the chicken mixture to cook through and the wonton wrappers to become tender and delicate.
- Serve: Carefully remove the ramekins from the pot to avoid spills. Drizzle with chili oil to add a touch of heat and extra flavor before serving warm. Enjoy your dumpling lasagna immediately for best taste and texture.
Notes
- You can substitute ground chicken with ground pork or turkey if preferred.
- For a vegetarian version, use finely chopped tofu and mushrooms instead of meat.
- If you do not have a Dutch oven, a large pot with a steaming rack will also work.
- Adjust the amount of chili oil to your desired spice level, or omit if preferred.
- Ensure the ramekins are tightly sealed with wonton wrappers to retain steam and moisture during cooking.
