Ingredients
Dip Ingredients
- 2 cups caramelized onions
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 1/2 cups shredded Gruyere cheese, divided
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- A few grinds of fresh ground black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare for baking the dip.
- Mix Ingredients: In an oven-safe dish, combine the caramelized onions, mayonnaise, sour cream, 1 cup of shredded Gruyere cheese, garlic powder, and fresh ground pepper. Stir thoroughly to evenly incorporate all ingredients.
- Add Cheese Topping: Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of shredded Gruyere cheese evenly over the top of the mixture.
- Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20 minutes, or until the dip is hot, bubbly, and the cheese on top has browned slightly.
- Cool and Serve: Remove from oven and let the dip cool for five minutes to set and avoid burning. Serve warm with tortilla chips for dipping.
Notes
- Caramelizing onions can be done ahead of time to save prep time on the day of serving.
- For a stronger garlic flavor, consider using freshly minced garlic instead of garlic powder.
- This dip is best served warm and fresh but can be reheated gently in the oven if needed.
- Gruyere cheese provides a nutty flavor; you can substitute with a similar melting cheese like Emmental if Gruyere is unavailable.
- Adjust pepper amount according to taste preferences.
