Ingredients
Roll-Ups
- 10 slices white sandwich bread
- 3 tablespoons butter, melted
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
French Toast Coating
- 3 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon milk
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2-3 tablespoons butter for frying
Instructions
- Prepare the Bread: Remove the crusts from each slice of white sandwich bread. Using a rolling pin, flatten each slice thoroughly to make it easier to roll.
- Make Cinnamon Sugar Mixture: In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, and 2 tablespoons of ground cinnamon until well blended.
- Spread Mixture on Bread: Evenly spread the cinnamon sugar and butter mixture over each flattened bread slice, leaving a small border around the edges to avoid overflow when rolling.
- Roll the Bread: Carefully roll up each slice tightly from one end to the other, and gently press the edges to seal the roll-up so the filling stays inside.
- Prepare Egg Coating: In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon, and vanilla extract to create the French toast coating.
- Heat the Skillet: Place a skillet over medium heat and add 2 to 3 tablespoons of butter, allowing it to melt and coat the pan evenly.
- Dip and Cook Roll-Ups: Dip each bread roll-up into the egg mixture, ensuring it’s thoroughly coated. Place the roll-ups in the skillet with the seam side down to prevent unrolling during cooking.
- Cook Until Golden: Cook the roll-ups on medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes in total, carefully rotating to brown all sides evenly and achieve a crispy, golden crust.
Notes
- Removing the crusts helps the bread roll up smoothly without cracking.
- Ensure the edges of the bread are sealed well to prevent the filling from leaking during cooking.
- Use medium heat to avoid burning the outside before the bread is heated through.
- You can experiment with different fillings like cream cheese or fruit preserves for variety.
- Serve warm with maple syrup or a dusting of powdered sugar for extra indulgence.
