Ingredients
Sausage Dip
- 1 lb. Hot Italian sausage, casings removed
- 8 oz. Velveeta, cubed
- 4 oz. cream cheese, softened
- 1/3 cup sour cream
- 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp. onion powder
- 1/2 tsp. ground sage
Dough and Assembly
- 2 tubes crescent rolls
- 6 slices Muenster cheese, halved
- 1 large egg beaten with 1 tbsp. water (egg wash)
- 1 tbsp. chopped chives
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a large baking sheet with foil for easy cleanup.
- Cook the Sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the hot Italian sausage, removing the casings as you go. Cook the sausage, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until it is golden brown and cooked through, about 8 minutes.
- Melt and Mix Cheeses: Reduce the heat to low and stir in the Velveeta cubes, softened cream cheese, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, and ground sage. Continue stirring gently until all the cheeses are melted and combined into a creamy mixture, approximately 5 minutes. Remove the skillet from heat.
- Arrange Crescent Rolls: Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate it into triangles. Arrange the triangles on the prepared baking sheet in a sunburst pattern with the pointed ends facing outward, creating a ring shape with a gap in the center.
- Assemble the Dip Ring: Spoon the warm sausage and cheese mixture evenly onto the wide ends of each crescent triangle. Place a halved slice of Muenster cheese over the filling on each triangle. Fold the pointed ends of dough over the filling and tuck the tips underneath to create a sealed ring.
- Apply Egg Wash and Add Chives: Brush the entire dough ring with the beaten egg wash to help achieve a golden brown crust. Sprinkle the chopped chives over the top for a fresh herbal touch.
- Bake the Ring Dip: Bake in the preheated oven until the crescent roll dough is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly, about 18-20 minutes.
Notes
- Use hot Italian sausage for a spicy kick, or substitute with mild sausage if you prefer less heat.
- Velveeta is key for a creamy, smooth dip, but you can substitute with a blend of cheddar and American cheese if necessary.
- Chilling the assembled ring for 10 minutes before baking can help it hold its shape better, but it is not mandatory.
- Serve warm with crackers, tortilla chips, or fresh vegetable sticks for dipping.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven.
