This homemade chicken nuggets recipe offers a crispy, flavorful bite-sized treat made from fresh chicken breasts seasoned with garlic and onion powder, coated in a crunchy breadcrumb crust, and fried to golden perfection. Perfectly paired with ketchup and fries, these nuggets make a delicious appetizer or main dish that’s simple to prepare in just 35 minutes.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

Chicken Mixture

  • 2 chicken breasts (500 g)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 75 g breadcrumbs
  • 75 ml milk

Breading

  • 100 g wheat flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 150 g breadcrumbs

Frying

  • Olive oil for frying

Serving

  • Ketchup to accompany (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Chicken: Cut the chicken breasts into small pieces suitable for blending.
  2. Season Chicken: Place the chicken pieces in a food processor and season with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  3. Soak Breadcrumbs: Soak 75 g of breadcrumbs in 75 ml of milk for a few minutes, then drain excess milk.
  4. Combine & Blend: Add the soaked breadcrumbs to the chicken in the food processor and blend until a smooth, uniform mixture forms.
  5. Form Nuggets: Shape the processed chicken mixture into evenly sized portions or nuggets.
  6. Breading Process: Set up a breading station with three bowls: one with wheat flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with 150 g breadcrumbs. Coat each nugget first in flour, then dip in beaten eggs, and finally coat with breadcrumbs.
  7. Fry Nuggets: Heat olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry the nugget portions in batches until golden brown and cooked through, approximately 3-4 minutes per side.
  8. Serve: Drain the cooked nuggets on paper towels and serve hot with ketchup and fries.

Notes

  • Ensure the oil temperature is moderate to avoid burning the nuggets while cooking through.
  • Do not overcrowd the frying pan to maintain even cooking and crispiness.
  • You can substitute olive oil with vegetable or canola oil if preferred.
  • For a crispier texture, you can double coat the nuggets by repeating the egg and breadcrumb steps.
  • Serve immediately for the best taste and texture.
