Ingredients
Dough
- 1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 3/4 cup milk
- 3/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1/4 cup oil
- 2 tablespoons minced garlic
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
Garlic Butter
- 2 tablespoons minced garlic
- 5 tablespoons butter
- 2 teaspoons chopped parsley
Instructions
- Activate Yeast: In a mixing bowl, stir together the yeast, sugar, and warm water. Let the mixture sit for 10 minutes until foam appears on top, indicating the yeast is active.
- Make Dough: Add the flour, milk, yogurt, minced garlic, oil, baking powder, and salt to the yeast mixture. Using a dough hook attachment, mix until a dough ball forms.
- Knead and Proof: Remove the dough from the bowl and knead it on a floured surface for 3 minutes. Place the dough ball into an oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and set aside in a warm place to double in size for about 1 hour.
- Divide and Shape: After the dough has doubled, punch it down and cut it into 10 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball, then flatten on a floured surface to fit the size of your air fryer basket.
- Air Fry: Place each flattened dough piece into the prepared air fryer basket sprayed lightly with oil. Cook at 370°F (188°C) for 6 minutes, then flip and cook for an additional 3 minutes until golden and cooked through.
- Prepare Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, melt butter and stir in minced garlic and chopped parsley.
- Brush and Serve: Once the naan is cooked, brush the garlic butter mixture generously over each piece while still warm. Serve immediately for best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Ensure the water used to activate yeast is warm but not hot to prevent killing the yeast.
- Greek yogurt adds tanginess and helps keep the naan soft and moist.
- You can substitute butter for oil in the dough for richer flavor but oil keeps it tender.
- If you do not have an air fryer, naan can be cooked in a hot skillet or oven, though cooking times will vary.
- Leftover naan can be reheated in a toaster oven or air fryer for a few minutes to restore crispness.
