Deliciously tender and flavorful baked salmon with a buttery garlic seasoning and a hint of sweet and smoky spices. This easy-to-make recipe yields perfectly cooked salmon with crispy skin and moist flesh, ready in just 30 minutes, perfect for a healthy weeknight dinner or special occasion.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

Salmon

  • 1 (2-pound) whole salmon fillet (skin-on preferred)

Seasoning and Sauce

  • 3 tablespoons melted butter (or olive oil)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon ground paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • Ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prep the Oven and Salmon: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lay a large piece of foil on a rimmed baking sheet. Place the salmon fillet skin side down and the pink side facing up onto the foil. Fold and crimp the foil edges around the salmon to create a little ‘boat’ to hold juices while baking.
  2. Season the Salmon: In a small bowl, mix the melted butter (or olive oil) with minced garlic. Brush half of this mixture evenly over the salmon. In another bowl, combine the brown sugar, Italian seasoning, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and ground black pepper. Sprinkle this spice mixture evenly over the salmon. Finally, drizzle the remaining garlic butter over the top for extra flavor and moisture.
  3. Bake the Salmon: Place the foil-wrapped salmon in the oven and bake for 15 to 22 minutes depending on your desired level of doneness—15 minutes for medium-rare, up to 22 minutes for well done. Halfway through baking, you may baste the salmon with the accumulated juices to keep it moist. Once cooked, remove from the oven and allow the salmon to rest for 5 minutes before serving to let the juices redistribute.

Notes

  • For safety and best texture, bake salmon until it reaches an internal temperature of 125°F for medium-rare or 145°F for well done.
  • If you prefer, substitute melted butter with olive oil for a lighter option.
  • Ensure not to overbake salmon as it continues cooking while resting.
  • Serve with fresh lemon wedges or your favorite side salad for a complete meal.
