Limoncello Tiramisu is a refreshing twist on the classic Italian dessert, combining creamy mascarpone cheese with tangy lemon curd and vibrant limoncello liqueur. Layers of lemon-soaked ladyfinger cookies are enveloped in a luscious lemon-flavored mascarpone cream, finished with a delicate lemon curd drizzle. This dessert is perfect for warm weather, offering a bright, citrusy flavor profile with the traditional indulgence of tiramisu.

  • Total Time: 4 hours 30 minutes
  • Yield: 16 servings

Ingredients

Mascarpone Mixture

  • 2 cups mascarpone cheese (16 ounce container)
  • ¼ cup lemon curd
  • ¼ cup limoncello
  • 1 lemon, zested and juiced

Whipped Cream Mixture

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • ⅓ cup powdered sugar

Lemon Soak

  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 4 lemons, zested and juiced
  • ½ cup limoncello

Assembly

  • 2 packages ladyfinger cookies (about 40 cookies total)
  • ¼ cup lemon curd
  • 1 tablespoon limoncello (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the mascarpone mixture: In a large bowl, use a handheld mixer to beat together the mascarpone cheese, ¼ cup lemon curd, ¼ cup limoncello, and the juice and zest of one lemon. Mix until smooth and set aside.
  2. Make the whipped cream: In another bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream and powdered sugar together using a handheld mixer until thick peaks form.
  3. Fold whipped cream into mascarpone: Using a rubber spatula, gently fold the whipped cream mixture into the mascarpone mixture until combined. Set aside.
  4. Prepare the lemon soak: In a saucepan, bring the sugar and the juice and zest of four lemons to a boil. Once boiling, reduce heat and simmer for 2 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in ½ cup limoncello.
  5. Soak ladyfingers: Quickly dip half of the ladyfinger cookies into the lemon soak, allowing them to absorb some liquid but not become soggy. Arrange these soaked ladyfingers in the bottom of a baking pan, cutting pieces if necessary to fit.
  6. Layer mascarpone mixture: Spread half of the mascarpone cream evenly over the soaked ladyfingers in the pan.
  7. Second layer of ladyfingers: Repeat the soaking process with the remaining ladyfingers and arrange them over the mascarpone layer.
  8. Top with remaining mascarpone: Spread the remaining mascarpone mixture over the second layer of soaked ladyfingers smoothly.
  9. Make the lemon drizzle: Thin out ¼ cup of lemon curd with 1 tablespoon of limoncello or some remaining soak liquid. Whisk thoroughly and drizzle carefully over the top layer of tiramisu.
  10. Chill the tiramisu: Cover the assembled tiramisu and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or up to two days to allow flavors to meld and dessert to set.

Notes

  • Be careful not to oversoak the ladyfingers to avoid a soggy dessert.
  • For a non-alcoholic version, substitute limoncello with lemon syrup or lemon juice.
  • The tiramisu tastes best after chilling for at least 4 hours to enhance flavors and texture.
  • Ensure mascarpone is at room temperature before mixing for smooth incorporation.
  • Use fresh lemons for the best citrus flavor and aroma.
