Ingredients
Chocolate Base
- 1/4 cup dark chocolate (approx. 2 oz., chopped)
- 1 cup almond milk (or milk of choice)
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1 tbsp cane sugar
Flavorings
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp freshly squeezed orange juice
- 2-3 orange peel rinds
Instructions
- Melt Chocolate and Milk: In a medium saucepan, combine the chopped dark chocolate and almond milk over medium-high heat. Stir frequently to gently melt and blend the chocolate with the milk, ensuring it does not burn or stick to the pan.
- Add Remaining Ingredients: Once the chocolate is fully melted and smooth, reduce the heat to low. Stir in the cocoa powder, cane sugar, vanilla extract, orange juice, and orange peel rinds until well combined.
- Simmer and Infuse Flavors: Allow the mixture to simmer gently on low heat for about 10 minutes. Stir occasionally during this time to prevent sticking and to help infuse the orange flavor throughout the hot chocolate.
- Serve Warm: Remove the saucepan from heat. Strain out the orange peel rinds if desired, then pour the hot chocolate into a mug. Optionally garnish with whipped cream, additional chopped chocolate, or orange zest for added indulgence.
Notes
- Use high-quality dark chocolate for the best rich flavor.
- You can substitute almond milk with any milk of your choice, such as cow’s milk, oat milk, or soy milk.
- Adjust the amount of cane sugar to your preferred sweetness level.
- For a spicier version, add a pinch of cinnamon or chili powder.
- Removing the orange peel rinds before serving prevents bitterness in the drink.
