Ingredients
Meat and Seasonings
- 2 lb Ground beef
- 2 tsp Sea salt
- 1/2 tsp Black pepper
Vegetables and Spices
- 3 large Bell peppers
- 1 large Onion
- 1/2 tbsp Italian seasoning
- 1 tsp Smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp Garlic powder
Dairy and Liquids
- 4 oz Cream cheese (cut into pieces and softened at room temperature)
- 1/4 cup Chicken broth, reduced sodium
- 6 slices Provolone cheese
Instructions
- Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (177 degrees C) to prepare for the baking step.
- Cook the beef: Place the ground beef into a large sauté pan over medium-high heat. Break the beef up with a spatula and season with sea salt and black pepper. Cook for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the beef is browned and fully cooked.
- Sauté vegetables: Add diced bell peppers and onions to the pan with the beef. Season with Italian seasoning, smoked paprika, and garlic powder. Sauté the mixture for 10-15 minutes until the vegetables are tender and fragrant.
- Add cream cheese and broth: Incorporate the cream cheese and chicken broth into the pan. Stir continuously until the cream cheese melts and blends smoothly with the beef and vegetables, creating a creamy sauce.
- Assemble casserole: Transfer the beef and vegetable mixture into a large baking dish, spreading it evenly. Arrange the provolone cheese slices on top, slightly overlapping them to cover the surface.
- Bake: Place the baking dish into the preheated oven and bake for 10-15 minutes, until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden brown on top.
Notes
- Softening the cream cheese at room temperature helps it incorporate smoothly into the sauce.
- You can customize the bell peppers by using different colors for a vibrant dish.
- Use reduced sodium chicken broth to control saltiness in the dish.
- Feel free to add sliced mushrooms or hot sauce for extra flavor.
- This casserole pairs well with a simple green salad or crusty bread.
