Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 1 ½ cup (200 g) whole-wheat flour (or all-purpose flour)
- 1 ½ tsp baking powder
- Sea salt, to taste
Wet Ingredients
- ⅔ cup (200 g) Greek yogurt (minimum 5% fat recommended)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven or air fryer: Preheat your conventional oven to 375°F (190°C) or your air fryer to 280°F (140°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ease clean-up.
- Mix ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole-wheat flour, baking powder, and sea salt. Add the Greek yogurt and stir until the dough begins to form. The dough should be soft yet manageable—if sticky, gradually add more flour; if too dry, add a spoonful of Greek yogurt and mix again.
- Knead the dough: Transfer the dough onto a floured surface. Knead it gently but thoroughly until it becomes smooth and consistent.
- Divide and shape: Divide the dough into 4 equal portions. Shape each portion into a smooth ball to form individual buns.
- Bake the bread: Place the dough balls on the parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, until the buns are golden brown on top.
- Cool and serve: Remove the baked protein bread from the oven and let the buns cool on a wire rack for at least 15 minutes before serving to allow the texture to set.
Notes
- You can substitute all-purpose flour for whole-wheat flour, but whole-wheat provides more fiber and nutrients.
- Adjust flour or yogurt amounts as needed to achieve a soft but workable dough consistency.
- Letting the bread cool before slicing prevents it from becoming gummy or crumbly.
- For an extra flavor boost, consider adding herbs or spices to the dough.
