Ingredients
Syrup
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick (or 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon)
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 3 chai tea bags (optional)
Drink
- 3 shots espresso
- 2-3 dashes cinnamon
- 1 cup oat milk (or milk of choice)
- Ice cubes (for shaking and serving)
Instructions
- Make the Syrup: In a small pot, bring 1 cup of water, the brown sugar, and the cinnamon stick to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sugar is fully dissolved. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. If using chai tea bags, add them to the syrup, cover, and steep for 10 minutes to infuse flavor. Once cooled, refrigerate the syrup for up to 2 weeks.
- Prepare the Shaken Espresso: Fill a shaker glass with ice. Add the 3 shots of freshly brewed espresso, 2-4 tablespoons of the prepared syrup, and a couple of dashes of cinnamon. Shake vigorously for 1 minute to combine and chill the mixture while aerating the espresso.
- Assemble the Latte: Strain the shaken espresso mixture into a tall glass filled with fresh ice. Pour 1 cup of oat milk (or your preferred milk) over the espresso. Stir gently to combine all flavors smoothly. Serve immediately and enjoy the rich, spiced latte.
Notes
- The syrup can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks for easy latte preparation.
- For a stronger chai flavor, steep the chai tea bags longer or add extra bags.
- Adjust the amount of syrup to sweetness preference.
- Use any milk of choice including dairy or plant-based alternatives.
- Shaking the espresso with syrup and cinnamon helps create a frothy texture without a milk frother.
