Ingredients
Tater Tots
- 1 bag tater tots (about 32 oz)
- 15 wooden skewers
Meat and Seasonings
- 1/2 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp onion powder
- 1 tbsp chili powder
Cheeses
- 1.5 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1.5 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Bacon and Toppings
- 0.5 lb bacon, chopped and cooked
- 1 bunch green onions, sliced
- Sour cream, for drizzling and serving
Instructions
- Cook the Tater Tots: Preheat your oven and cook the tater tots according to the package instructions. For easy cleanup, spread them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake until crispy and golden.
- Prepare the Ground Beef Mixture: While the tots bake, heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until softened. Then add the ground beef along with salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and chili powder. Use a spatula to break up the meat into small pieces and continue cooking until fully browned. Remove from heat.
- Cook the Bacon: In another pan, cook the chopped bacon pieces over medium heat until fully cooked but not overly crisp. Drain on paper towels to remove excess grease.
- Assemble the Skewers: Once the tots are cooked, thread 4 to 6 tater tots onto each wooden skewer. Lay the skewers on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Evenly distribute the cooked ground beef over the tots, then sprinkle with shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheese.
- Melt the Cheese: Place the baking sheet with assembled skewers into a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C). Bake for about 8 minutes, or until the cheese has melted thoroughly.
- Add Toppings and Serve: Remove the skewers from the oven and immediately sprinkle the cooked bacon and sliced green onions over the melted cheese. Drizzle sour cream on top, and serve additional sour cream on the side for dipping.
Notes
- Using parchment paper on your baking sheets helps with easy cleanup of melted cheese and crispy tots.
- You can adjust the number of tater tots per skewer depending on the desired portion size.
- For extra flavor, try adding a sprinkle of smoked paprika or cayenne pepper to the ground beef mixture.
- Keep cooked bacon warm in a low oven if not assembling immediately.
- Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor as cheese tends to harden when cooled.
