Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 3/4 cup oat milk (or almond milk / very cold dairy milk)
- 4 medium strawberries (with stems removed)
- 2.5 tbsp white granulated sugar (or granulated cane sugar)
- 1.5 tsp matcha (ceremonial or everyday grade recommended)
- 4 tbsp hot water (about 176ºF / 86ºC)
- 4-6 ice cubes
Instructions
- Muddle Strawberries: Add the strawberries and sugar to a tall 16-oz glass. Use a muddler to crush the strawberries until they release their juices and form a purée. If you don’t have a muddler, finely chop or purée the strawberries in a blender then mix with sugar in a glass.
- Add Ice and Milk: Place 4 to 6 ice cubes over the strawberry purée, then pour in the cold oat milk (or your choice of milk). Set aside to keep chilled.
- Prepare Matcha: Sift the matcha powder into a small bowl to remove clumps. Add 4 tablespoons of hot water (176ºF / 86ºC), then whisk briskly in a zigzag motion using a bamboo whisk or regular whisk until frothy, about 30 seconds.
- Combine and Serve: Pour the frothy matcha liquid over the milk and strawberry mixture. Stir gently to combine all layers and enjoy immediately.
Notes
- To avoid clumps in your matcha, always sift powder before whisking.
- Use cold milk to keep the drink refreshing and chilled.
- Adjust sugar to taste or substitute with a sweetener of choice.
- If no muddler is available, blending strawberries is an excellent alternative.
- Serve immediately for best flavor and texture.
